The School for the Blind (USB) offers a variety of programs to meet the individual needs of each student ages three to 22.
Campus Programs:
USB provides self-contained* classrooms located in Ogden (Blind North Region), Salt Lake City (Blind Central Region), and Orem (Blind South Region) for visually impaired and blind students. Each educational environment promotes independence, skill development and challenges each student to achieve his/her potential. Students are referred for potential placement at USB by local school districts through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.
Outreach Program:
The Blind Outreach program offers an alternative to a campus- based program for students who are visually impaired or blind (ages three to 22). Services are provided at their local school by a teacher of the visually impaired (TVI). Outreach service areas are designated as rural areas (click here for identified service areas). As is true of campus-based programs, services are implemented via the IEP process.
*Self-contained: USB-designated classroom, with a USB teacher. Classrooms can be located on our campus or based in another school with potential mainstreaming opportunities.
