Utah Schools for the Blind

Welcome to Utah Schools for the Blind (USB).Our goal is to provide high quality educational programs to students with vision loss throughout Utah. USB serves students who are blind or visually impaired with a strong foundation for lifelong learning at the heart of our programs. We value differences and encourage students to interact and participate in their educational community.

USB offers students a wide range of curriculum options which are individually tailored to focus on each student’s abilities. Programs begin at birth, with the Parent Infant Program and continue to serve students, as needed, through age 21 with the STEPs Transition graduated independent living program.  Curricula include standard Utah Core Curriculum academics in addition to life skills instruction for students whose needs may not be met in a traditional academic setting.

We are proud of our small class sizes and low student to teacher ratios. Each program is designed to ensure a child-centered school experience. USB teachers are dedicated, creative, caring, energetic, and highly qualified with bachelors or master’s degrees and state certification.

Our students have the opportunity to reach their full potential through diverse experiences designed to enhance intellectual development, self-esteem, and self-advocacy.  USB instruction allows students to learn and practice life skills in a variety of environments that help students grow to live successful and productive lives. Supplemental programs are offered regularly including short term educational programs and summer camps with collaboration participation from consumer groups.

Feel free to browse the website, visit a campus location near you, or contact us with questions, comments, or to request more information. We are here to offer support, guidance, and expert advice. As the Associate Superintendent for the Blind, I am your advocate as you navigate through the programs and services that make up your child’s education.  I look forward to hearing from you!
