Welcome to the Deaf Central Division
The Deaf Central Division offers three program options including Auditory/Oral, Total Communication, and ASL/English Bilingual Education. While our administrative offices are located in Salt Lake City, our students attend school throughout the Valley in their home school mainstreamed classrooms. Classes are taught by USDB outreach teachers, or in self-contained USDB classrooms located at various Salt Lake locations including Millcreek Elementary, Upland Terrace, Churchill Jr. High School, and Skyline High School. USDB enjoys a wonderful relationship with Granite School District whose principals, teachers, and staff are an essential part of our student's educational team.
No matter what your student's age and educational philosophy, we pride ourselves on placing students in classrooms that fit their needs comfortably.
Because we believe that all students are unique and deserving individuals with diverse needs, we begin our placement process immediately following referral to USDB. During Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, we plan educational goals and determine how best to meet each student's needs. Student placement is reviewed regularly and families are able to choose alternate placements if desired.
We believe a student's family plays a vital role in a successful educational program and encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom and support their child at home. Statistically, students whose parents are more involved in their child's educational program are more successful in school.
Your child's education is our number one priority! Feel free to browse the website or contact us with questions, comments, or to request more information. As the Deaf Central Educational Director, I am your advocate as you explore and experience your child's educational options. I look forward to hearing from you!
