Here I am in front of the Japanese Consulate's house in San Francisco.  It was an amazing house, and the Consulate and his wife were very gracious to welcome all 160 of us there.

Starting at the chopsticks, there is a tofu block, potatoes and carrots, a shrimp sushi with rice, duck on a stick, I don't know what the yellow ball was, a spring roll, and two white dumplings with shrimp and seaweed inside, chicken and beans.

The restaurants in Tokyo almost always have plastic food out in front, showing what they serve.  I wonder where all the plastic food comes from?

When you go to a Buddhist shrine in Japan, you are supposed to wash your hands and mouth before you go in.  This is a cleaning station in Asagaka, part of Tokyo.

This was cold buckwheat noodles, with what tasted like cold miso soup on top, with seaweed.

It looked beautiful, but tasted awful to me!

These huge fish are tuna.  The buyers walked around and inspected them, then suddenly there was a huge loud auction with lots of yelling and jumping around and bells ringing, then in 15 seconds it was all over!

I went back to this shrine on my last night in Japan, to say goodbye.  It felt completely different at night.  It was very peaceful, and a little spooky.

This shrine at kamakura is dedicated to unborn children--the spirits of miscarried children.  People leave toys for the spirits of children.  I lit incense for them.
