Parent Infant Program (PIP)
Welcome to the USDB Parent Infant Program (PIP) webpage! PIP recognizes that early identification and services for children with sensory loss can significantly optimize developmental potential. Our mission is to provide high quality hearing and vision services to children under the age of three who have vision or hearing impairments, and their families. PIP services are offered throughout Utah. The PIP program works in collaboration with Utah’s Baby Watch Early Intervention system. USDB Vision or Hearing Specialists are members of each Early Intervention team in Utah. Vision and Hearing services provided through USDB are free. Eligibility to participate in the program is determined through vision or hearing diagnosis and assessment of development.
The PIP program provides a variety of home based services for children and families. Services are delivered by credentialed Early Intervention Vision and Hearing Specialists. These dedicated, caring teachers provide home –based services in a variety of natural settings using developmentally appropriate activities. Services for PIP children are implemented through Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs). Specialist visits are scheduled with a frequency based on each child’s individual needs.
The Parent Infant Program strives to provide early intervention services and coordination including:
• Support for parents and families in their efforts to understand their child’s hearing or vision loss.
• Information, training, modeling and consultation for parents and family to allow for an increased understanding of their child’s unique needs.
• Networking opportunities for families to meet others who have children with hearing or vision impairments.
• Resources and instruction designed to prepare children with sensory impairments to reach their highest potential in preparation for further education.
Feel free to browse the website, visit a campus location near you, or contact us with questions, comments, or to request more information. We are here to offer support, guidance, and expert advice. We are your advocate as you navigate through the programs and services that make up your child’s education. We look forward to hearing from you!
