Welcome to the Utah School for the Blind (USB)
Empowering students who are blind, visually impaired, and deafblind across Utah to live independently and confidently — through expert instruction and the power of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).
What Makes USB Unique?
At USB, we don’t just teach academics — we teach life skills. Our programs are built around the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), which includes:
These skills are woven into everything we do, helping students thrive at school, at home, and in their communities.
How We Support Students
Our flexible service model meets students where they are — from infancy through young adulthood:
Early Intervention
In-home vision support for infants and toddlers, with ECC foundations starting early.
Campus Programs
Preschool, Elementary, Secondary and Post-high students receive intensive instruction at our Ogden, Salt Lake and Springville campuses.
Outreach Services
Our teachers travel to local schools across Utah to provide ECC-based instruction and support.
Deafblind Services
USB proudly supports all deafblind students in Utah with specialized services and instruction.
Residential Transition Program
Located in Ogden, our transition program prepares high school, post-high, and college-aged students for independent adult living through real-world ECC experiences — from budgeting and cooking to job training and social events. Students live alongside blind mentors who provide daily support and inspiration.
Our educators are leaders in the field. Every Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Teacher of the Deafblind (TDB) is licensed, highly trained, and passionate about what they do. Utah is proud to be the only state in the U.S. employing officially endorsed TDBs.
More Than School — A Launchpad for Life
At USB, we believe in every student’s potential. Through personalized support and the ECC, we help students become confident, capable, and ready for life’s next chapter.
