Join Us for the Third DeafTown Experience in Salt Lake City, Utah!
October 16–18, 2025
The Utah School for the Deaf is excited to host the third DeafTown experience, bringing together middle school and high school Deaf and hard-of-hearing students for an engaging, interactive learning opportunity—along with flag football and volleyball games!
What is DeafTown?
DeafTown is a fully interactive, simulated city where students learn by doing. Through personalized lessons, hands-on activities, and active participation in running the city, students connect what they’re learning in school with the real-world skills they’ll need after graduation.
Schedule of Events

October 16 – Students arrive at the KBS Campus, meet new friends, and prepare for the DeafTown experience.

October 17 – Students learn directly in American Sign Language about essential employment skills, including self-advocacy, self-care, and interview techniques. More than 90% of the instructors will be Deaf, with all others fluent in ASL. Students will “work” in businesses facilitated by Deaf volunteers and professionals, earn play money, manage checking accounts, and practice budgeting while shopping and banking. This immersive experience helps students build confidence and develop competitive life skills.

October 18 – The day begins with flag football at the KBS Campus, followed by volleyball games in the afternoon at the JMS Campus in Salt Lake City. Come cheer on our Deaf students and celebrate their talents!
